Getting bored with your run-of-the-mill whiteboard presentations at the office? No problem, at least for designers from Eness, a Melbourne, Australia-based firm that appears to have made its own playable version of Pong. As the video shows, the two players draw their own paddles with dry erase markers to bounce a ball that looks like a beam of light coming from a moving projector. Keep in mind that this is a regular whiteboard, not an interactive whiteboard.
Anyway, assuming this is legit, I have a couple reactions. First off, I hope they have multiple speeds for the game, because the video demo almost put me to sleep. But maybe it’s slow to allow for the fact that you constantly have to draw a new paddle, then erase it as soon as you hit the ball, which naturally slows down your reaction time. Secondly, the designers need to put a limit on how big you can make your paddle, because lazy players can just draw a long line across the entire side of the field and take a nap. That said, I do like how you can draw the paddle anywhere you want on the field and hit the ball at any angle, which helps make up for the slow speed. It’s all pretty interesting, and I’ll be looking forward to an explanation from Eness as to how they put this together.
