So a few months ago, I profiled Magic Whiteboard, a new product from the UK that combines elements of a flipchart, whiteboard, and a statically-charged sock to create a portable writing surface you can stick almost anywhere. Some might’ve called it a novelty invention bound to fade out after its TV debut on the popular UK reality show Dragons’ Den. But according to a recent article by David Paine in the Worcester News, inventors Neil and Laura Westwood have been “swamped with worldwide orders” after a second appearance by their product on a follow-up show that aired on October 26. In Paine’s November 6 article, the couple reports over 300 orders and more than 300,000 visits to the Magic Whiteboard website, although it’s unclear whether those figures are from October 26 on, or from the date of the product and site launch.
In any case, it’s interesting to read about a positive follow-up to a recent story. As the market for whiteboards continues to evolve, consumers are making it clear that they want their writing surfaces to do more than just take up space in a classroom or office. People want convenience, and Magic Whiteboard appears to provide that with its unique portability, functionality, re-usability, and affordability. It just goes to show that sometimes a second bite at the apple can taste a whole lot sweeter.
